11 am and all ready to meet Jan Roden. First thing this morning and Ian had looked out to see if Sue and Martins boat Bragabout was anywhere nearby. It was and right outside the pub too. Couldn't miss it as had a nice line of Australian and English bunting flying across the length.
We had no idea who was going to be there and so was surprised when 33 members turned up. Most were from England with only a few from Oz but all very enthusiastic about the society. Our ECP&DA Chairman Norman and wife Shirley also drove down and presented Jan with a few of our society goodies.Taking over the whole of the back room of the Globe, Sunday lunch was served at 12.30 pm. Jan made a speech outlining where the ACS was going and how to attract new members. One suggestion was FB although many members were against that idea.
Had a very funny moment when both Norman and Ian wanted to visit the little boy's room. Our table was by the window with four more tables joined together. For Ian and Norman, it was almost impossible to get out other than asking everyone to get up and move. Whether it was those two pints that went to their heads I will never know but they decided to limbo under the table much to the hilarity from those around.
That's Shirley with the chair and Norman doing his limbo act. |
Before the farewells were said it was a photo opportunity outside in the sun to get the group together, took some doing as the road to the carpark runs along the length of the towpath and many a time we had to scatter rather quickly. But it all came good in the end.
From L to R; Jan Roden, Norman our chairman, wife Shirley, Ian, me, Shard & Carolyn Wadley, ACS UK organisers. |
All in all it was a great few hours spent with it possibly becoming a bi-annual event. Roll on 2019.
