About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

The clean-up did happen after all.

Thursday 12th October.

Yesterday was hubby's birthday and now eligible (finally) to collect his pension.  I've been rubbing my hands in glee and thinking of all that retail therapy I can now do!....Whats that you say Ian?....a padlock on your wallet?...what a meanie!

That IWA Milton Keynes branch canal cleanup and still no sign of any activity. Again I wondered why those signs were put up in the first place. Those C&RT workboats and pans still in exactly the same position as when we arrived two days ago and left on a 24-hour mooring!!!( one rule for them.......?)

Late afternoon and we took the bus to Shenley Church End. No# son's birthday is on the 16th so we had a joint celebration last night at a Thai restaurant in Milton Keynes. Back at his house and more drinks came out. Needless to say, I drank rather more red wine than normal and woke up ever so slightly fragile!

 Friday 13th

Leaving Fenny to be greeted by lovely Autumnal colours.
Walking back to FS this morning, after taking another two buses back from Shenley, the first thing we noticed was those signs had disappeared along Fenny Stratford moorings as well as one of the C&RT workboats and the pan. So they were doing something after all. Anyway, we pulled pins and headed for Newlands. Ian wanted to touch up the gunwale on the Starboard side and the bank height there is perfect for doing this. Just one bridge to go when we found the IWA clean-up crew and C&RT in the middle of the canal with no chance of getting past. So for the next 15 minutes, we waited while they fished out this huge branch and cut it into smaller pieces. Chatting to one of the IWA helpers about the signs at Fenny, he was equally as baffled as to why they had been put up.

Looked like a race was about to start!

Commentator......"And on the offside, the workboat was gathering pace leaving the narrowboat floundering behind. And bringing up the rear in the last position"....oh it's us!
Heard there is a hurricane coming. Is this going to be another one of Michael Fish's gaffs? But found this on the Internet so you never know. Might stay where we are for the foreseeable future!

And wildlife,
