About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

It's a thumbs up......again.

It was a very early start this morning, not for a pleasant cruise up Stratford locks, but to walk the mile to collect a hire car from Enterprise. It was a day of NHS appointments and we wanted to be at Enterprise when they opened at 8am. We failed to make it at that time though, because of the copious amounts of pigeon poo and egg...... yes pigeon egg.... off the roof and side. Dare not leave it to bake throughout the day, especially in this heat. Can you imagine the work in trying to remove it when we got back!!!

Scrambled anyone?

I suppose if we will moor under a tree!!............Mind you, no other space was available on this 48 hour mooring so it was here or between the locks. With short pounds and leakage from the gates, we could have ended up sitting on the bottom, not advisable in our opinion. Anyway we got the car by 8.30am and did the journey back to Nottingham in 1hour 30. So now all the appointments for today done and dusted, blood test to check our cholesterol, physio for Ian and consultant for his 6 monthly appointment. Good news as we had the thumbs up for Ian and another appointment made for December. If by then all is still well then we can finally go onto annual appointments. Keeping  everything crossed that we have finally got to the end.

And a crash landing on the roof opposite this mooring.
