About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

How much a metre????? And the meeting of Eddie the Cat

Wasn't expecting ice on the Houdini this morning or the mist rising from the canal. It's mid April for heaven sake so what with the cold conditions? Thought of my lettuces struggling against the frost and imagined them shriveled beyond help but they all seem to have survived.

Having spent £1199.70 on 30 metres of cable....... Bl**dy hell that was expensive!!!!!  Okay it was an error on the till receipt but it did make us do a double take. In fact for the 30 metre reel the cost was £39.99. Not £39.99 a metre as was entered! Anyway the battery purchased on Freaky Friday was ready and waiting for us and we also purchased a box to put it in. It will live in my locker and hopefully keep my bait fridge going.

Next stop was Penkridge for loo emptying and a quick nip to the corner shop for bread and milk. £2.28 it came to, quite outrageously expensive. No wonder the small shops are closing if they charge those prices. They just cant compete with the supermarkets that the problem. We do like to use them when we can but 99p for milk?

The moorings at Penkridge was empty. Very unusual as this is normally a popular spot.

With two boats in front of us it was slow going up the locks but we still made Autherley Junction by just before 3pm.  Out came the fishing rod as soon as we moored and some nice chub were caught. By 5ish I thought maybe it was time to start dinner and no sooner had I prepared the veg when I heard Ian chatting to someone outside. Turns out it was Clinton from Nb Tacet. A brief chat took place before leaving for our respective boats. Sitting here blogging I was determined to get a photo of Eddie the Cat. So off I went to Tacet armed with camera. Having interrupted their dinner so I could take these photos, Clinton and Sharon made me feel very welcome. Eddie the cat was laying in his favourite place, the sofa and I felt honoured to meet such clever and talented author as him. So nice to meet other bloggers and chat away as if we have known each other for years. Really hope we meet again during your year afloat.

Took some amusing photos on route as well as the wildlife ones.
