This May bank holiday will see the Erewash Canal Preservation & Development Association putting on their 40th Anniversary of the opening of the Great Northern Basin. 105 boats have booked in and a few boats have already turned up over the last week but we were expecting quite a few to arrive today. Unfortunately the weather has once again been against us with the torrential downpours raising the river levels. Boats due to attend are stranded at Alrewas and Shadlow and the sandbank reappearing at Cromford on the lower Trent has scuppered the chances of those coming from Chesterfield. One hardy boater NB YesDear made the journey but only by traveling down from Sawley on red boards. With the hope of the weather improving, some of the boats who want to get away straight after the rally, have come out of their basin moorings and with some of the boat owners unable to move their boats today due to other commitments, an army of bodies have had to bow haul most through the swing bridge and pole them to their rally mooring. It's been utter bedlam but with everyone helping the job was done in a couple of hours.
