About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Miniture steam train party.

What a great end to our cruising for the next year. The Milfield steam train party was just amazing  Fun, fun and more fun. It was lovely watching adults reverting to their childhood again and to do it with miniature steam trains was a sight to behold. The party started early afternoon with people arriving throughout the day. Disposable BBQ's appeared and the place was not only covered in steam from the engines but smoke from around 15 or more BBQ's. 13 boats were in attendance and quite how John Cook managed to fit them in and around his home must have been challenging but he managed somehow.

We managed to tuck ourselves into the undergrowth.

Today Christine arrived with young Josh. As we had told Josh about the trains he particularly wanted to have a ride. John had ok'd it for Joshua to have a ride on the tram, but as John was busy trying to move the boats, he showed Ian how it operated and Christine, Josh and myself clambered on board  The whistle blew and we were away. I don't know who enjoyed it more, Josh or Ian!!

,
I reckon its every boys ( and mans ) dream to have a railway in the garden, although I do know of one boater who has a model railway running around the gunwales!!
Rain is forecast for tomorrow so we will hightail it back to Sawley and stay for a few days. I just hope the Trent doesn't come up again and scupper our chance to get onto the Erewash. We will have to make a run for it if it does.
