About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Another late night.

After a lazy day watching TV yesterday, and dreaming of an early night to recover from Josh's  party , a sudden knocking on the window just as we had finished our dinner made me jump. Jan from Nb Jandi stood outside and asked if we would like to join Di and herself for a drink at the Dragon. Well, we jumped at the chance because our last drinking session at Birmingham was a barrel of laughs. So all thoughts of going to bed early flew out of the window, and by 9pm we were in the bar enjoying, not only our drinks, but the atmosphere and loud cheering as Bolt won the100mts sprint. 3 rounds later and by nearly midnight, we finally headed for the back door, only to find it locked. The publican came forward with his key and try as he might, couldn't get the door open. We couldn't think of a nicer place to be locked in! Unfortunately the front door was still open ( shame ) so getting back to the boat meant a slightly longer walk in the dark. I was ever so glad to get to bed but the evening didn't disappoint, as both Di and Jan are great company.
This morning our start was later then normal. We had to wait by the winding hole to get onto the facilities as another boat had beaten us to it. Moored just beyond was a guy on Canaltime. He started shouted at us about mooring in a winding hole. I ask you!! A hirer trying to lay down the law!!! Mind you it was nice to see that he had some sense as we have seen so many hirers taking no notice of the 'no mooring' signs!!  Anyway, once watered we trundled all of 1/2 mile to a mooring outside Mercia Marina. The satelite went up and we had another day in front of the telly. Well done to the GB Equestrian team. First gold in 60 years. Yeaaaaaaaaa.
