About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Mind games.

This was us taken last night at around 8ish. All that lovely blue sky but by 9.30pm... cloud cover and no stars, so all thoughts of admiring the milky way were dashed. Never mind we still have time. So long as we freedom camp we stand a good chance.

Made a silly mistake this morning. Setting off early to get to Wanaka and Puzzling World, we found a tap which we thought had clean drinking water. Did something we never do on the boat and that is to place the hose directly into the van water tank and turn on the tap without running water through the hose first. Tank filled quickly and as we pulled the hose out realised the water coming away was brown! Oh 'eck, no way of dumping the water as all grey water goes into a holding tank and has to be discharged into designated dump sites. Nothing for it but drive to the nearest tourist site with dump point and pay to discharge the tank. Then we filled and refilled the water tank several times until the clarity of the water was acceptable but from now on we will have to boil all the water just in case.

So now to Puzzling World, messes with your head big time. Nothing is as it seems and we had that much fun that it was difficult to leave. After paying the $20 each (well worth it) I made for the loo. That was worth paying the money for just to see that.

Come on all you brainy people out there. How is this done!
A new 3D maze has opened, well, we had to try that! The task was to get to four different coloured corners and then find your way back. After nearly 45 minutes of searching, we did find all the corners. But then we had to find our way out. Well, we are ashamed to say we failed, and after another hour had to leave via the emergency exit!

You would think it was dead easy. Wrong. One person had been stuck in there for over 2.3 hours!
Queenstown was the next destination. Wow, that mountain road was something else. The views...stunning. Found another free camp site right near to Shotover river. It is this river that we will be doing a jet boat ride along tomorrow. This boat speeds past rocky outcrops, skim around boulders and zips through narrow canyons.  Are we mad or what!

A couple of bugs to show you.

Huge ain't it.
