About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

This time it's the rising water levels that scupper everyones chances.

Much better day, a bonus for those leaving Langley Mill. We expected three boats today and another two tomorrow, instead only two arrived. Reason, according to C&RT web site, is that the Trent is in flood. Means those boats hoping to get through the stoppage at Shardlow before the closure on Sunday, haven't a hope in hell. So it seems all our efforts in trying to get C&RT to change plans were of no use after all. Anyway, nb Icing with Dennis and Margaret and nb Vixen with Dave and Heather turned up mid afternoon. Getting them into the arm was a tad difficult, not because of the wind, but because a small cruiser was moored in an awkward spot and trying to move it forward only caused it to dig deep in the silt, nearly scuppered our chances. Still a trusty mop and Ian's brawn managed to move the boat sufficiently for both boats to 'nearly' come alongside.

Another shove and Icing was in.

Vixen couldn't move any further forward so it's a good job Icing has such a long foredeck.

That will have to do!
Off out to the Bridge Inn for a meal later, then no doubt an evening get together for a natter and drinks. Tomorrow the Friday work party starts at the cottage to get it spick and span in readiness for the games night in the evening.

And today's wildlife.

Singing it's heart out, it was. Spring is in the air!
