About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Last day in Botswana

 10th May

Today, we made our way further South to a place called Palapye, about 90 minutes from the Botswana border. The campsite was almost impossible to find, thank goodness for the sat nav! Another 5-hour journey, 360 km along potholed roads, although the last 90 km was on decent tarmac for a change.

Three vet inspections had to be passed, the first for a fridge check, we were waved through, the second was a truck check with armed guards (dare not take a photo), and the third was shoe dipping and drive through disinfectant water.

Once at our site, Itumela..OMG, talk about basic! We did have an electric hookup, but the loos and showers left a lot to be desired! I braved a shower and had to run the water for a while before it became clear! Still, we are in Africa, where water can be very scarce!

A very green and dirty swimming pool!

Tomorrow we will cross the border back into South Africa. Things should improve considerably..we hope!
