About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Krugger National Park

 April 19th

These early starts are starting to have an effect; we are both feeling a bit frazzled. The alarm went off at 5 am, cos we had to leave the site by 6 am. The reason was to hopefully see those animals that preferred cooler conditions to be active. Didn't quite work out that way because another of our vans got stuck and had to be towed out, so it was nearer 6.30 when we all got going.

The 100km journey took 1.5 hours. More potholes and a couple of landslides to slow us down.

We reached Kruger National Park at the Phabeni gate, with all 14 vans parked up, ready to get the paperwork done to enter, only to be told we were at the wrong entrance and had to travel a further 34 km to the Kruger entrance! By now, any hope of seeing the cats had gone out of the window. They would all be resting up in the shade of a large tree. But crossing one of the many rivers throughout the reserve, our first sighting of Hippos

The day got better and better, many animals were seen and having asked Ian to stop so I could get a drink, from out of the rear window we saw this. If we hadn't stopped......

So here are some of the many animals seen today. Tomorrow we go on a 4X4 safari excursion. It will be a full day, and if its as hot as today (32 deg), plenty of sunscreen will be app
