About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Problem solved

 Aug 16th

Update

What was I saying yesterday about my 'man that can' couldn't fix our severe tiller wobble problem? Well he proved me wrong, that man of mine is a genius!

He was convinced that what we rolled over was a mound of masonry (builders rubble) and the bouncing must have pushed the rudder stock upwards, popping it away from the cup and through the top bearing. (This can be seen in the photo below), To try and rectify the problem two grub screws either side of the base of the swan neck had to be removed.  Ian jiggled the tiller and wow was he lucky when the rudder stock dropped back into its locating point. The grub screws were replaced and voilà... no more light tiller movement or  uncomfortable juddering when steering.

The 3mm gap showing the bearing has been forced up
