About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

It's going to be a good one.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL

Farewell 2020. Hello 2021... a year for new beginnings and hope. This year the pandemic will finally be brought under control and what a fabulous acheivement from all those scientists and medical experts across the World who have worked tirelessly during 2020 to find a vaccine to protect us all. Also, a massive thank you to our key workers, who have helped us to keep safe and keep our communities running.

So at the end of this awful year and before we toasted in the new, we had snow...not a lot, just a smattering, and we even had minus temperatures, enough for ice to form on the canal making the swans work hard to try to get across. Wouldn't it be lovely if the new year brought more snow, falling long enough for some magical days of walks, snow ball fights and even the making of a snowman!

To each and every one of you have a wonderful New Year and may all your future days be good 'uns'.

Sending Happy New Year wishes to you both from Kiwi Land. Such a lot has happened since your trip here last year. We almost got to meet up, didn't we, but sadly it was not to be, perhaps next time.

Happy New year to you both too Jenny. Hopefully, we will be back to NZ, maybe in 2022. Xx

Hi Irene and Ian.
Trust your 2021 year is a fulfilling one for you two.
We are sitting with winds of 50 to 60 kph and 35-40deg up in the hills of Perth WA locked down from the rest of Australia by hard border closures but safer than the people of NSW or Vic.

Hope to get back to the boat in Sydney mid February but we will have to wait and see.
Things can change quite rapidly here at the moment.

Cheers
John

Happy New Year John and Dawn. Trust you are both well. We were hoping to set off on the boat Mid Feb but with us being in full lockdown again, and the vaccine for our age group planned in March, we will just have to bide our time. I expect your cruising season will kick off long before ours.

Stay safe and hopefully one day we can all meet again.

Xx

Belated happy new year, you two!

We have just returned from a trip to the southern end of Lake Taupo and then over to Taranaki - down past Tongaporutu (didn't stop this time) and onwards to stay with Dee and Murray.

It seems very strange that we are totally free to move around the country and you guys (and our son Tim on nb Waka Huia) are not.

Please stay safe and healthy, I&I. Sending big hugs,
M&D xxoo

Hi Marilyn, I have spoken to my brother in Oz and he and Sally are free to meet with family and travel within the NSW area. Just goes to show what can be achieved by a GOOD ruling government! If only Boris had done likewise at the beginning of the Pandemic last year we might not be in this mess. I must say both of us are getting paranoid by what is happening here and have only left FS for a quick shop. March is when we are likely to receive the vaccine, and it can't come quick enough!

Very jealous of you and David and so wish we had stayed down under. You too stay well and safe and sending much love to you both. Xxx
