About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Flying high amongst the tree canopy

We did it!!! These two geriatrics (meaning us) took on the 6 zip wires, two rope swing bridges and ended up 40m high in the treetop canopy and as a bonus.....survived to tell the tale!

The experience was amazing and our guides Josh and Ken brilliant. Although the ziplines are in the heart of the forest, the money made by people like us help with the conservation. Click here  The introduced pests, (rats, possums, stoats etc) are a serious problem for the native species and have killed a huge number of the ground-dwelling birds, Kiwis and Kakapo parrot are but a few. With the money raised, they have managed to buy equipment to humanely kill the pests and have greatly reduced the numbers. We did also manage a trip to the Te Wairoa falls at the Buried Village
In 1886 120 people died when volcano Mount Tarawera erupted.

And as we left the tourist park this morning,

And wildlife seen
