Update on Ian

Last Monday Ian had his MRI scan and today was the day of the result. Its a day we have been waiting for ever since the chemo started back in August. With some trepidation we entered the consulting room and after a 5 minute wait, in came the consultant. I could see by his face that the news wasn't what we wanted to hear and my heart plummeted.  In his first sentence he said the result was inconclusive.  But he also stated it was because the program on his computer wasn't man enough to show him a true reading. For that he needed the 'all singing all dancing super duper' equipment on the main computer at the MRI center. He hadn't had the time to go and analyse the scan properly but assured us that, with what little he could see on his computer, was enough for him to be pretty convinced that the tumour had flattened and maybe even shrunk. With that news we breathed a sigh of relieve and then he gave a further assurance that he would phone us by next Monday with the result. So we still are not a hundred percent sure if the chemo is working but as far as Ian's consultant is concerned, it is. Then as we were about to leave the consultant asked us if we had any thoughts about chemo over Christmas. With the regime Ian is on at the moment Christmas eve and New year eve would both be days for him to attend the oncology ward. Ian said how nice it would be if he could have Christmas of. The consultant smiled and said ' how about New year as well'. I could have kissed him because it means we could leave for Milton Keynes after Ian's chemo on the 18th December and if we put in 8 hours a day and go via Leicester on the Soar, we could be in Cosgrove for the 24th just in time for Christmas and Boxing day with all the family. I had a quick look at the long term weather forecast and although the days will be colder then average, no hard frost are predicted. We would also have to return before the 6th as stoppages start on the Erewash on the 7th January. So, all in all, not quite the news we expected with the MRI but fabulous news that we can go boating again for a few short weeks.
