May 2nd
What a glorious day to get the washing done, and boy, do we have a mountain of it, not just our clothes but bedding as well. Behind the showers are 4 sinks, two for crockery and two for clothes, marvellous except for one big problem. No plug! Hmmm….I got my thinking cap on and thought I would try the sink plugs in the motorhome. Didn't fit unsurprisingly, but then I had a brain wave. The van's toilet had a plug with a pin sticking through it. If I pierced a plastic bag through that and then tried it in the sink, would it work…Yes…genius, I thought. So for an hour this morning, I washed everything I could lay my hands on, and with Ian's help, we strung a line across two trees and pegged out. Within 2 hours, everything had dried, even those that dripped when first hung up. At 30-plus degrees, I expected nothing less.
With liquor in mind, we drove to town, stocked up with beer and wine and then went to do a bit of shopping. No one here is in a hurry, and at the checkout, we must have waited 30 minutes before it was our turn. But we hadn’t reckoned on the couple in front of us not having enough money to pay, and that took forever to sort out. In the end, items were removed from the bag until the right amount was reached.
The afternoon was spent by the pool. We still haven’t had a swim. I was busy with the blog as it was the only place we could use the site's WiFi.
Earlier, a booking had been made for a sunset river cruise which started at 4 pm and aware of the time, headed back to the van to change. By 3.30 we were at the jetty waiting. Another 19 people turned up, several of whom were from our group. By 4.10, an announcement was made by the boat driver. He couldn’t get it started but he did have the smaller vessel, which could take 8 people. Well, that didn’t do the rest of us any good, so the first 8 on the list got to go. We were number 9 and 10, which ruled us out! Never mind, it was what it was, we will just ask for our money back but….and this is where there is a real sting in the tail. Reception said they couldn’t do a refund on the cards; the bank wouldn’t let them. Oh dear, a lot of angry people. In a way, because we were going to the restaurant later, our bill would be reduced by the 700 Namibian dollars owed to us, but those who were not eating were in for a long fight!
We met for a gathering around a fire at Kobus and Diedrie's camp before setting out for the meal. Stupidly, I forgot to cover myself in mosquito repellent, and they had a field day! Nothing for it but race back to our van and grab a long-sleeved shirt.

Dinner was okay, Ian said his was delicious, he had the Hake, but my so-called sirloin steak had more grizzle than meat and was almost inedible. The pasta was nice, though, and we did get the money off our bill that was owed, so it was not a wasted evening at all. Tomorrow we travel to our next camp at Mukolo. Its through a national park, so we may see some wildlife. Here's hoping.
