This made me smile.

Really???? Isaac Newton law of gravity as it's best. There is a popular story that Newton was sitting under an apple tree, an apple fell on his head, and he suddenly thought of the Universal Law of Gravitation.

It appears we don't need to batten down the hatches after all. Hurricane Joaquin is set to split as it approaches the UK, heading South and North. Thank you Sue No Problem for leaving me a comment and seems you were right when you told me this. BBC forecasters this morning said if it heads North we are in for a warm spell (drawing the wind from the South) or South for a cold spell (drawing winds from the North)

So now for some help in identification please. I'm at a loss at what this moth and this plant is. Both seen on one of the paths in this area. Any Ideas? Thought the plant was an Orchid but not so sure. Looks like a small hyacinth and as for the moth? No mention of it in my Butterflies and Moths book so totally baffled.

  1. That moth, which I cannot identify, is ethereally beautiful. Such lovely gossamer effects. Cheers, Marilyn

  2. Your flower .... I am looking at my boat copy of Keble Martin and it looks as though it may be a Stachys - betony, marsh woundwort or wood woundwort - they all flower till September. Try online!

  5. Hi Irene - this is Jennie's son.

The moth is called the Herald. Please have a look at the following link to the UK moths website for a bit more information - http://ukmoths.org.uk/species/scoliopteryx-libatrix/
