About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Emirates cruise day 6 & 7

Day 6

Another lovely start to the day. Sunrise much earlier now that we are in the Med. I can honestly say that we have done nothing, but nothing all day. Our only activity was to soak up the sun and fry and attend the afternoon quiz. Keep failing to win by only 1 or two questions. Still the temperature is up in the 20's now and if it wasn't for a cooling breeze, would  probably be unbearable. Sea is like a mill pond and If it wasn't for the slight hum of the engine one would truly believe we were still on the dockside. Food is still plentiful, but both of us have started to cut our portion sizes down. It's the coffee and cake at 15.30 which is our downfall at the moment, oh and of course the copious amounts of alcohol every night!!!. Evenings entertainment was by an opera singer. I can almost see you rolling your eyes but she was just brilliant.  Today's photos are of us all dolled up, (which I forgot to include in a previous post) on the Captains formal evening and another wonderful sunset.

Day 7

Well what a contrast to yesterday. From near smooth seas and  force 3, today we are experiencing force 6 and high seas. Talk about rocking and rolling and that with the stabilizers engaged! Got woken by something banging below. Hope it wasn't the lifeboat working its way loose! After all its the one we use if needed!!!! Anyway with clear blue skies we knew we were in for another good day. Only downside was the strong winds which chilled the air considerably. We attended the lecture on Sharm-el- Sheikh ,had lunch and made our way to the top deck to get out of the wind. Glass panels along the sides by the pool area makes this a perfect sun trap. Here we stayed and fried again but this time both of us braved the pool. Quite an experience with the ship moving from side to side whilst trying to swim against the movement..

Did the afternoon quiz and got nowhere again. Tonight's show will be the Max Bygrave crooner so wont be attending that. Maybe for once we can have an early night....or maybe there again..... we might not!

Yes I am afraid these cruise ships do not promote anything energy do they!

I had to smile when you said "we have done nothing, but nothing all day"

So we were quite normal then when we cruised doing exactly the same thing!!

Togs look good Irene.. Did you have to tie it for him!?
