About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Meeting with the newly weds

Had our first BBQ of the year last night and I'm sure it wont be the last. Supping wine with the neighbours and putting the worlds to rights, it just cant get better then this!  Mind you it may all change come Thursday as we find out the outcome of Ian's MRI scan. The question is, Will we be heading back to Langley sooner rather then later? If the worse come to the worse and radiotherapy is the only answer, then Ian wants to postpone treatment until after the Stafford rally in June and Blackboy rally in July. Ian has stated categorically that these two events are not be missed.

We weren't the only ones BBQing last night. Every boat along the mooring had the BBQ's on the go.
This morning we went to Swadlincote to be with Christine.  She is now officially 5 days late! Kev and Josh went to Mallory to watch the the motorbikes so it felt like a good idea to stop and keep Christine company for a few hours. Also Kev wants to re roof his shed and wanted to know what was ours ( leaving Sandiacre 6 years ago we off loaded no end of our belongings on the kids, Colin included) and with the non- perishable's put away in his shed, we riffled through most of the stuff and sorted out what was ours. Thats when we discovered the rats had devoured and peed over most of it! The smell in the car on journey back to FS, after filling the boot to capacity, was quite overwhelming! Tomorrow cant come soon enough when we take it all back to the garage in Sandiacre. Not looking forward to opening the car doors tomorrow morning though!

Once back at FS we awaited the arrival of the newly weds Alan and Carol. I call them newly weds 'cause it hasn't been a year yet since they wed. They are still in the 'rosy tinted glasses' stage. In June last year we joined them on their honeymoon for a few days. Not often honeymooners have company but we were heading in the same direction as them. Seemed logical at the time to travel together. They arrived today mid afternoon and we spent a very enjoyable few hours catching up with all the news. Refreshment of beer, wine and coffee (Carol) went down a treat. Just right for these hot conditions. Stafford rally will be when we get together next so looking forward to seeing you then guys.

No BBQ tonight but we did make the most of the continuing good weather by eating dinner outside. Along came the Canada geese and their brood. 14 goslings but one very much larger then the rest. An adopted orphan perhaps?

The larger gosling at the front

A definite size difference
