About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

New arrivals in the dock

Gosh it turned cold last night and with only a small electric fire to heat the boat we went next door to warm up on NB Icing. For some reason Icing always feels warm. Dennis and Margaret's only form of heating while in the dock is a small oil fired radiator but the difference between both boats is amazing. I reckon its the carpet on the floor and up the walls that makes the difference. Anyway Mexican Train was played until 10ish then Jade and Bonnie ( Stephens gorgeous GSD) had to be given their final walk. I was very glad on our return to FS to get warm by going to bed. (Ian makes a great hot water bottle!)

So this morning I first took Jade for her walk then went shopping to stock up the larder in readiness for the family turning up tomorrow.

Breakfast had been requested (full English) as they expect to arrive before 9am. It will be like feeding the five thousand as our son Colin, daughter in law Iwona, Oscar and Ollie (Grandkids) and daughter Christine, son in law Kev and Josh (Grandson) are all going to pile into the boat. That should warm it up a bit!  Ian has been fitting the new anodes and preparing the gunwales for painting. We didn't do the second coat of bitumen on FS but we did help to finish Icing's blacking. Tomorrow we give the family the rollers and let them finish the blacking for us. Tis only fair as we are feeding them all!
