About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

As Poirot would say.....Must get my little grey cells to work!

I'm not very pleased with myself today.  All that tutoring yesterday has yet to sink in and even though I thought I was putting in the correct settings in my camera, my abysmal attempts show up all to well once uploaded to Picaso. I just cant get my head round the ISO and F numbers. Perseverance will pay off eventually no doubt, but here are my awful first attempts and to all the camera experts who know what I'm talking about, I have included the camera settings.

f/5.6, ISO 100, exposure time 1/200

f/5.2, ISO 200 exposure time 1/250

f/5.2 ISO 200 exposure time 1/125

f/3.2, ISO 160, exposure time 1/60

f/3.6, ISO 100, exposure time 1 /160
And finally:-

I'm not too sure how good Poirot was with a camera !
A little more information is crucial - what lens and if a zoom is it set at 100mm or 200mm when the photograph is taken. What camera as the image sensor size is a factor.
Going full manual is a big ask my choice has been AV mode.
For a hand held shot go for 1/160 then choose the f number for your desired effect, set the ISO that achieves the above.
Like riding a bike once you have the hang of it.

Hello Andrew,
I sort of get what your saying but I still have a long way to go. My manual for the camera, a Panasonic Lumix FZ48, is on the computer so a right pain to access it. I know I will get it eventually but it will take time.
