About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Update on Ian

It was a bit later then planned when we finally got the call to say the hire car was available yesterday morning. By the time Ian had returned with it, it was gone 10. 30 am so didn't really get going until after 11am. Journey to Nottingham was free of hold ups and we arrived at the Hospital with time to spare. For once the wait was not to long and before we knew it we were called to the consulting room by the Consultant himself. After Ian's initial weight check, and questions of how Ian has been, he told us there didn't appear to be any change in the lump and as far as he is concerned all was looking good. Next time he wants to see Ian is in November and a MRI will be scheduled for then as well. So crossing everything yesterday worked and we again can be on our travels for another three months. We are two very happy bunnies.

I did have an incident on our journey home though. Ian was in the hire car and I was in front in our car. We need our car to be in Milton Keynes for when we arrive early September as we are due to go away with the ECP&DA to Wales. Leaving it with our son Colin seemed logical. On route something happened that shook me a tad. There was a pickup truck ahead with one car in between me and it. Suddenly something flew out of the pickups window and landed with a thud on the road. The car in front of me swerved and that's when I realised it was a dog! My initial thoughts was someone had thrown the dog out of the truck. The car in front stopped and I followed suit. Ian, unaware of what was going on, thought I had a problem with the car and also stopped. Anyway I jumped out and ran to the dog ( Jack Russel ) who seemed very dazed and was holding up his rear leg. I had thought the car in front may have hit it but on reflection I think it was the fall that injured it. Looking round I noticed a man running toward me. He was the owner and also the driver of the pick up truck. Turns out the dog wasn't thrown from the truck but leapt out of his own accord giving the owner one hell of a fright. The nearest vet was only a mile away and I believe he rushed the dog straight there. Drama over we continued to Milton Keynes where Iwona cooked us dinner and I got to cuddle the grandkids. By the time we finally returned to the boat it was nearly midnight and after a nightcap fell happily into bed.

So left our moorings late cause Ian had to return the hire car and wait for a lift back, and with out any need to make haste, just ambled along  till lunch time. Just before Stockers lock we called it a day. What a great place to stop. Nearby was a huge lake and surrounding the park was a bug photographers heaven. So most of my And finally are of bugs and wild flowers!

Good to read some positive news on the health front. All around seem to be problems at the moment. Have a good bank holiday, and get the rod out, far too few fish pictures !!
