About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

To young to die

Yesterday a very dear friend of ours died peacefully after a year long battle with a brain tumour. Keith and Ian met at college when they were 17yrs old and then they worked together for a short while. He was usher at our wedding and eventually married my bridesmaid Pat. For over 40 years we have all been the best of friends and to lose his fight for life at the age of 61 is tragic. Rest in Peace Keith. You will for ever be in our hearts.

Hello James & Doug,

Thank you for your comment. Keith was a wonderful man and had so many plans for the future. He never even got to retire. Life is a bitch sometimes but has to go on. Both of us are looking forward to June when we can clear off for a while and hopefully Ian's MRI scan in a couple of weeks time will bring up a positive result.

Love to you both

Irene & Ian

So sorry to hear that Irene,

We had a friend died recently of cancer, just 4 months after diagnosis. She was only in her early fifties. Really hits even harder when it happens to a friend around your own age..
