About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

BW new jobs description, bullock rescuer

What a dramatic climax to an otherwise perfect day. We are now moored at Long Buckby heading towards Braunston. First thing I did, other then check the telly, was get the rod out. I found a tackle shop at Nether Heyford and stocked up with maggot and got myself nicely settled  to a good evening fishing. Suddenly I became aware of a  commotion coming from the field opposite. I'm going to let my photos tell the tale.

I watched as the bullock managed to find its way past the barbed wire

Trying to find a way out

Heading off in the wrong direction. The black bullock stayed with it the whole time.

Found a way out but..............

On the wrong side of the fence.

Lost its footing and.................

In it went again

So Set of once again in the wrong direction

Again it climbed out on the wrong side of the wire. ( this could go all night )

Fell in yet again

This time went a bit to deep and ended up having to swim! In the wrong direction AGAIN! Then along came the man in blue. The blue crusader BW ( Note no life jacket!!!)

Unfortunately after climbing out yet again it must have been quite traumatized because the sight of the BW guy scared it into jumping back into the canal

Next thing we know its making for the opposite bank but with the help of several boaters, manged to head it off,  BW ran toward it shaking his arms, and what with the noise from the moored boaters, it finally found  the place it first entered the canal.

On the phone to the farmer

Drama finally over. .Safely  back in the field. With all this going on my fish must have scattered in all directions because not a bite was to be had all evening!
