About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Oops. In trouble with the neighbours.

Firstly I must tell you that my picture teaser was off a miniature Schnauzer puppy. He was desperately trying to peer over the side but being so small he appeared to look like a pile of rags. In the second picture he was barking furiously at Jade . What you saw was his throat as he raised his head to bark at the sky!!.

Secondly our grandson Oscar was so much better today. Iwona phoned the nursery this morning to inform them of Oscars condition, only to be told that 8 children all had the same symptoms over the weekend, and all had an overnight stay in hospital, Then another 10 kids were sent home this morning all with high temperature and coughing. This has turned out to be a very aggressive virus.

So today the petrol driven shredder arrived. We had to get rid of the trees and shrubs I had cut down last week and a shredder was the cheapest option. The first thing Ian did was to start it. Wow!!! Talk about noisy!!! No mention, when it was ordered, about needing ear defenders or eye protectors. There was no way I could stand next to it without bursting my eardrums, and as Colin had none of the above, Ian went to B&Q to purchase the items. Once fully kitted up I set to shredding the branches. That's when the neighbours started to complain. I cant say I blame them. I wouldn't want that noise for hours on end. Iwona had to apologies profusly but she did point out she was not to know just how loud it would be. The lady was still not happy and wanted us to stop. Trouble was Iwona had payed for the use of the machine for 24 hours and promised that we would get rid of the branches as quickly as possible. I did hurry as much as I could but it still took me the best part of 4 hours before the lot was gone.

Daunting!!!!

Very fetching headgear

Surely the hire company should supply safety equipment, effin safety & all that, they have a duty of care to any users of their equipment ! ?

Great news on Oscar, so pleased he is much better.
Oh heck on the neighbours. A bottle of wine and some flowers should sort that out LOL.
At the end of the day you were not to know it would be that noisy. I hope that it does not sour the relationship with them, it is always nice to have neighbours onside.

Love and hugs Jo xxx

Hi Alf,

I asked the same question about the safety gear coming with the equipment, but Ian pointed out that infections could be passed on by wearing ear defenders and eye guards by loads of people. It was very wrong of the company not to let us know that we needed these items. I feel we need to write a strong letter of complaint.
